Two in the Top End

John Doyle and Tim Flannery team up once again as they make an eclectic journey across the top of Australia investigating the future of our last frontier.
In their first episode, which has just aired on ABC 1, they drove from Cooktown to Undara National Park, along roads I know well. It made me want to head back north. Right now. Bugger tomorrow's lecture. If I leave in the next couple of minutes, I could reach the Murray River before 1 a.m. And then it's only another four days to the Cape. Easy!

Failing that, I could just watch the first episode again on streaming video. The Two visited Cooktown, Black Mountain, the wind farm near Ravenshoe and Undara National Park. Unfortunately, they didn't linger long enough to get a good look at the sites — but there was some nice vision from the lava tubes, including shots of brown tree snakes (Boiga irregularis) picking off flying bats.

I spent time in Undara in May. Here are links to my posts from the region:
If I don't leave tonight, I'll have to wait until next year.

Sigh

Next year it is, then.
