Very hungry for caterpillars


The caterpillars are not faring well. Wasps are not their only predators. Groups of silvereyes move through the garden, picking small caterpillars from leave, while pied butcherbirds take care of the bigger ones.

I think this is the young butcherbird who tackled a flower wasp. The hawkmoth caterpillar was an easier deal, but the butcherbird took no chances.

I'm going to have to do something with this...

But what if it's got a sting? That pointy bit looks bad
