The black coral pea may have plans for garden domination, but the rare Kennedia retrorsa is giving it a run for its money.

Although it doesn't look particularly vulnerable in my back yard, it is a short range endemic restricted to two small areas near Merriwa: Mount Dangar and Dingo Creek. Its limited distribution has led to its listing under both the New South Wales and Commonwealth endangered species legislation.

It is only just coming into flower. I counted sixty flower spikes, so I'm expecting a stunning display this spring. I'll keep you posted.
