I've managed to knock off a bit more text. But the sub-plot is taking over. That's the problem with writing — a story is like Frankenstein's monster. Creating it is difficult enough but keeping it under control is another matter altogether. It lives!

But isn't that the great joy in writing? I love it when things happen that I haven't thought about. Later, on reflection, I can often see that they were inevitable -- perhaps bubbling away in my subconscious all along. Give it free rein and see where it takes you.

I've had a revelation. I plot in the same way that I shop for shoes. I fall in love with a pair of shoes, decide that I should look at the complete range, wander from shop to shop, then end up buying the ones I drooled over in the first place. Having agonised over the sub-plot trajectory, I've come back to the path I devised ages ago. (Can you devise a path? You know what I mean.)
