On the drive from Biloela I saw some champion birds:
An Australian bustard in a paddock beside the road from Biloela to Westwood.
A party of blue-faced honeyeaters at Marlborough showed the apostlebirds how it was done. One distracted a small child with its lively antics and sapphire mask while the other two slipped in and nicked the kid's chips.
A pied heron near Proserpine.
A flock of spoonbills north of Bowen.
A dozen red-tailed black cockatoos feeding on trees at the side of the road.
Daredevil black kites swooping in front of the car to pick up roadkill.
