Red-rumped parrots

One of the problems with driving long distances in short times is that you don't get much of an opportunity to stop and enjoy the scenery. But I did spend a brief time at the visitors centre in Dubbo, where I saw these red-rumped parrots (Psephotus haematonotus). The males are the bright green ones. The females are not so colorful.

They were feeding on the lawn underneath that erstwhile planet Pluto.

This part of the world does all right with parrots! Red-rumps occasionally pop onto campus but these are the first I've seen this year.

Aren't they! They kept on feeding as everyone wandered around them.
