Sandal thief

This is what happens if I leave my gardening footwear unattended. In the house. As you can see from the state of the footwear, the turkeys are not fussy about what they steal.

One tried to make off with a hammock that I had rolled up and propped against the wall. Another attempted to half inch a large concrete snail. The bird had managed to roll it several metres before I foiled the plan. The snail weighs about 2kg. A brush turkey doesn't weigh much more.

If only I could train them to use this skill for my benefit...I could send them out on all sorts of Dickensian capers.

I don't think the hammock was suitable either, but that doesn't stop the turkeys!

Perhaps they take them to sell?

A 2 Kg concrete snail?
Obviously your personal mascot.
How dare they?

I really enjoy your backyard/garden. After a hard days work a turkey clearly needs to relax :)

Denis, these turkeys are completely lawless! And one of the snail's tentacles got snapped off. Hooligans!

Sorry, nut, your comment went into the spam filter. I don't know why.

I don't know if the turkey had worked out how to hang up the hammock or whether it was in cahoots with the possums.

Delightful. =) This is such a great example of the wonders of the internet. I happily peruse my favorite blogs, and forget that they're all over the world until I see something like this and think "Well, that's not like any turkey I've seen!" And go to the top of your page and remember. Oh, yes, she types with an accent (relative to me--I'm sure I also type with an accent). Other side of the planet. Yes. =)
