Harried potter wasp
[Previous problem fixed. Not Blogger's fault. Neither was it PEBKAC.]
This yellow potter wasp (Delta arcuata) was inspecting every vertical surface in the house. I'm not sure if she was looking for a spot to build a mud nest for her young 'uns, hunting for caterpillars or inspecting the paintwork. Hagrid the resident huntsman spider scuttled behind a bookcase when she appeared. Either he can't distinguish between caterpillar-hunters and spider-hunters or has a general antipathy towards large wasps.
Every time she settled, I approached with the camera. Despite my stealthiness, she took off as soon as I got within a couple of metres. I eventually managed to get this photo of the wasp. By this time she'd had enough, so she buzzed off.
