Brolgas near Kaban, FNQ The sarus crane (
Grus antigone) is the
other species of crane that occurs in Australia. Sarus cranes make regular appearances on the Tablelands, often in mixed flocks with brolgas (
G. rubicunda). Following a tip, I headed off this afternoon to see whether any were hanging around with brolgas in the maize fields near Kaban.
Plenty of brolgas but no sarus cranes. Still, it's early days yet.
