Family snapshots

A black house spider traps a blowfly in the tangle of her window web.


Hungry for something bigger than mosquitoes, her spiderlings scale the threads to reach the trussed and liquefying insect.


But she drags it back to the protection of her web, leaving the young ones to wait for more suitable prey.


They're still now. Mother's busy.

Judging by the amount of insect carcases I've been cleaning up lately, she can put quite a lot away!
