Better than a gnome

Every garden should have an ornamental pademelon.

Red the pademelon takes some time out from nibbling leaves and pooping everywhere to cogitate on life, the universe and whether he should scratch his ear or not.

Snakes on a vertical plane

I got a call yesterday from a friend who is renovating an old Queenslander (house, that is) up the road from me.

'There's a bunch of snakes in the wall. Do you want to take some pics?'

'Why, yes. Yes, I do.'

This was the haul: three snakes and a couple of monitors. You can see the snakes and a bit of one of the monitors in this photo.

Top left: Carpet python
Top right: Small-eyed snake
Middle(ish): Small-eyed snake
Bottom left: Foot of a spotted tree monitor (looks like a spider)

Carpet python

Close up

I'd like a carpet with a carpet python pattern

Spotted tree monitor (not the one in the first photo)

Spotted, but not up a tree

Even prettier than the carpet python

I'm sure that a few more snakes and lizards will turn up as the renovation proceeds. There's also a rumour of a large amethystine python in the roof. I'll have my camera ready!

Boo!

I think I've used that header before...

Once again, I find myself apologising for not posting. It's a combination of being busy, disorganised, a bit under the weather, disorganised and...well...disorganised. And you know how it is. If you stop posting for a while, not posting becomes a habit. (I'm not entirely sure how not doing something is habit-forming. Let's pretend I never wrote it. *waves hand* This is not the sentence you're looking for.)

Here's what's been going on at my place. An invasion of coppery brushtail possums.(Sorry about the quality of these photos, but I had to be quick. Too slow and the possums would be ransacking the house.)

At the kitchen window

A living Garfield doll (on a lichen-covered flyscreen)

When you're small, you can climb up a window frame

Looking winsome

When winsome fails, try slightly comical

The four possums (only three of which appear in these photos) all nest together on the patio roof, but spend their waking hours squabbling with each other. They're like kids forced to share a bedroom.
